The Thistle was a small pilot community arts program built with the belief that creative expression is vital to individual and collective wellbeing. The Thistle worked with social service agencies and shelters in Santa Fe, NM to offer drop-in art studios at their locations. Participants were welcome to use free art supplies to create singular or ongoing works.
The Thistle showed the work of its artist in exhibitions and held events in Santa Fe, NM. Thistle artists also took part in Streetopia
at The Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco, CA from May-June, 2012. Please see The LoLo link
The Thistle project was informed by the community at ArtStreet, a drop-in art center that is a program of Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless. ArtStreet link
. Collaborating agencies included Santa Fe Community Services, Esperanza Shelter, the Interfaith Shelter, Youth Shelters, and the NM Coalition to End Homelessness.
